Performance Evaluation of Delivery System with Free View-Area and Multiple Resolution Access for Multiple Users

Abstract(in English) With the spread of high-definition video devices like portable video cameras in professional domains as well as in consumer fields, and with the advance of digital broadcasting systems and video portal services in internet domain like YouTube, a huge number of high-definition video are available in our everyday life. This circumstance makes the desire to enjoy those video contents in new ways much stronger recently. This paper proposes a new video provisioning scheme which allows many multiple users to access simultaneously any view-area with any desired resolution in an interactive way. The basis is that the partial area, called tile, based pre-coded video streams are stored in advance, and these multiple streams are dynamically joined and delivered based on the user's view-area position. This paper specifically details a tile-based video coding scheme and a fast tile stream joiner scheme. Simulation experiments and our practical implementation show the feasibility and effectiveness of our proposed scheme.
