Detection Method of Calcification Shade and Coarse Calcification in Mammogram

Abstract(in English) In recent years, researches for computer aided diagnosis(CAD)systems of mammograms have been actively conducted. We propose detection methods of benign and malignant calcifications and extraction method of a big calcification such as coarse calcification and lucent-centered calcification that are a kind of benign calcification as a first step in a classification of benign or malignant calcifications. We use Moravec operator as detection methods of calcifications. In addition, the detected shadow is classified after the shape of coarse calcification where only a part has been detected return to original shape. We apply our method to 180 mammograms. As a result, our method extracted 182 areas out of 202 areas of the coarse calcification.
