Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A jointing of coated optical fiber can improve the handling properties. This requires cutting the fiber over its coating. Moreover, an alignment error should be reduced to overcome the additional core concentricity error which is introduced by the coating geometrical tolerance. In this paper, we experimentally investigate the relationship between the blade pressure of the conventional cutter and the end face condition of coated optical fiber, and reveal that the coated fiber is cleaved to the same mirror end surface as the bare fiber with an adjusted blade pressure. We also study on the technique which removes the fiber coating of the end with a pressure force to reduce the error of the core concentricity, and show that the shorter buckling space than 2.3mm realizes the pressure force over 6N which is enough large to remove the fiber coating.
