Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Net primary production (NPP) of terrestrial vegetation was estimated using the CASA model driven by SPOT NDVI, high-resolution digital elevation model (DEM), climate variables and vegetation-based parameters. The averaged total annual NPP was 0.853×10^<12>kgC yr^<-1> in southwestern China between 1999-2003 and the averaged annual NPP was 385.2gC m^<-2>yr^<-1>. The Karst vegetation was 0.234×10^<12>kgC yr^<-1> and 387.8gC m^<-2>yr^<-1>, respectively. The spatial distribution of NPP is well explained by combining climate patterns and vegetation types. Compared with field observations, the CASA model showed convincing NPP estimates. The production of Karst vegetation in southwestern China provides the basic data to understanding the biodiversity and ecosystem stability in karst landform.
