Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Metamaterials, artificial materials composed of an array of small sub-wavelength unit elements, are gaining a great attention due to their unusual electromagnetic properties which cannot be found in natural materials, and much effort on development of novel functional metamaterial devices exploiting their unique properties is paid recently. Especially, researches on left-handed metamaterials with negative refractive indices are extensively carried out in a diverse range from microwave to optical wave frequency regions. In this report, fundamentals and potential applications of microwave metamaterials are overviewed.
