Network reliability evaluation for managing maintenance time

Abstract(in English) The level of network reliability has to be achieved not only in the network-design phase but also in the network-operation phase because the period from the design to the deployment tends to shorten in IP networks. In our previous studies, some methods for estimating the level of network reliability for users have been proposed using failure data. In order to manage the level of reliability in carrier-grade network efficiently, the effects of failures on network operation have to be evaluated in addition to those on users. Therefore, in this paper, a procedure to evaluate the effects of failures on users and network operation is described. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by using the network outage data. Moreover, we consider the effectiveness of the proposed procedure for determining the actions for improving the level of network reliability, and clarify the future issues.
