Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Human footstep localization based on passive acoustic information was studied experimentally in an indoor environment. A simple microphone array consisting of four omnidirectional microphones set at 2.5m above the floor and a common methodology for localization based on time delay estimation were used for detecting the positions of footsteps. The success rate and the spatial error of localization for footsteps were analyzed. The results showed that localization and tracking of footsteps were achieved with sufficient accuracy within a diameter of 7-8m on the floor. The stride length, speed, and direction of walking can be evaluated by estimating and tracking footstep positions.
