Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The techniques for the measurement of polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) are of growing importance as fiber-optic communication systems progress toward higher-speed and larger-capacity. Time-domain waveform analysis such as eye-pattern is commonly used for evaluating the quality of optical signals. Simultaneously performing these analytical operations would make it possible to identify the impact of the PMD on the transmitted signal while monitoring its deteriorated waveform. We present here a newly-developed xy-field sampling technique, based on the linear optical sampling, that can completely characterize the PMD vector including high-order components while simultaneously monitoring the eye diagram of the ultrafast signals.
