Research and Development in Spatial Audio for Music Reproduction

Abstract(in English) Recent researches and developments by the authors in spatial audio for better music expression are introduced. In architectural acoustic design, auditory source width (ASW), which is an important characteristic of a sound image of psychological evaluations of sound fields, can be varied with modifying the wall shape. Electro-acoustic method is also useful for sound field control especially when architectural modification is limited. For multi-channel consumer audio system, novel method applying trans-aural technique can vary listener envelopment (LEV) so that a listener can be absorbed more in a reproduced content. Also for electronic orchestral music, more flexible method is proposed controlling direct and diffused component independently. Those controls of spatial audio can realize better expression of music.
