Traffic Matrix Estimation in Large-Scale IP Network

Abstract(in English) Understanding traffic matrix is useful for network design and so forth, but it is difficult to directly measure traffic matrix in IP networks. There is an existing scheme to estimate traffic matrix by using link traffic information which is easy to measure, and routing information. However, this scheme requires significantly longer computation time as network size grows. This paper proposes a new traffic estimation scheme whose computation time is significantly less than that of the existing scheme, by dividing a network into multiple blocks, estimating per blocks and combining results among blocks. By simulation, it is shown that the proposed scheme can perform traffic matrix estimation within feasible computation time in a network of thousands of nodes, while keeping estimation accuracy of the existing scheme.
