Abstract(in English) Proxy Fast Mobile IPv6 (PFMIPv6) which improves the handover durations of Proxy Mobile IPv6 which is network-based handover and provides more seamless handover is being standardized. The predictive handover mode of PFMIPv6 can minimize packet loss by forwarding user data from the old MAG (Mobile Access Gateway) to the new MAG to which the mobile terminal (MT) makes a handover and by buffering the forwarded data at the new MAG until the MT is attached to the new network. In the case where MT uses real-time application and handover is prolonged, the user data delivered after the handover results in a large delay jitter and exceed the acceptable jitter value of the application. Such packet buffering is not valuable for QoS of MT and wireless access network, and consumes much resource of MAG. We propose a novel data buffering scheme to reduce the amount of buffered user data in a MAG, utilizing the application information which IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) provides. Our scheme discards the forwarded user data in the case where the user data has large jitter. A simulation to evaluate the proposal shows that the buffered user data are reduced by up to 50% compared with unlimited buffering.
