Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Detection of trespassers in the indoor environment for security purposes need passive measurement approach without any active devices, such as RFID tags, since they cannot be expected to have active devices with themselves. Typical existing passive location estimation schemes exploit infra-red sensors or ultrasonic sensors,. However, these sensors have limited detection area and a large number of sensors have to be installed in the target area. To overcome these problems, we propose a novel passive location estimation scheme utilizing the variation of receive signal strength index (RSSI) of IEEE802.15.4 (Zigbee) wireless nodes. This method is based on the known observation that a variation of RSSI in the indoor environment is affected when pedestrians move. In this method, wireless nodes are set in every corner of the target area, and each periodically transmits broadcast packets toward other nodes. They measure variation of RSSI of received broadcast packets from all of other nodes. Measured data are aggregated, compared with reference data that was obtained in the past corresponding the different activity area. The area for which the reference data have the least difference with the measured data are estimated as the target activity area. Performance evaluation by experiments shows the proposed scheme correctly estimates the target activity area with 83%.
