Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to increase the number of fibers accommodated in a conduit, we have developed a small diameter 1000-fiber underground optical cable. This cable has a small diameter slotted rod and incorporates bending-loss insensitive fiber and thin ribbon. We have also optimized the size of the inner pipe to allow us to install two new 1000-fiber cables additionally. These techniques make it possible to install more fibers in a conduit, and contribute to the effective use of underground facilities.
