Proposal of Depth Cue Expression Method Using Motion Parallax in Video Communication

Abstract(in English) We aim to achieve video communications that enable the change of natural, non-verbal information in the same way as actual real face-to-face conversation. Because general video communication systems present flat images using 2D displays, depth information on the conversational partner's space is greatly missed. Moreover, when user shift their line of sight, neither the conversational party nor the background change in the image because the camera position is fixed. This greatly obstructs the transmission of non-verbal information with depth information. We propose a user display of one 2D window comprising a joint surface of two spaces, and to present the visual information corresponding to the user's viewpoint on this 2D display. Our work describes a prototype of a system that we designed and implemented for this purpose.
