Construction of a Surround Sound Evaluation System using a Real-ear Insert Microphone Probe

Abstract(in English) The problem of estimating the sound pressure level (SPL) generated at individual eardrums is experimentally investigated using an artificial head. In this paper, a real-ear insert microphone probe was developed using an acoustic tube (the diameter; 6mm, the inside diameter; 4mm, and the length; 14mm). Two microphones (the diameter; 3mm) were arranged side-by-side at the interval of 9mm. The SPL at the position of ear drum was estimated by the transfer function of the artificial head which inserted the microphone probe. From the results, on the one hand, the resonance frequency and the SPL of the measured data using the artificial head are 1,645Hz (62.1dB), 8,237Hz (47.8dB). The anti-resonance frequency and the SPL is 7,180Hz (29.5dB). On the other hand, the resonance frequency and the SPL of the predicted data by two-microphone method of the acoustic tube using the artificial head are 1,614Hz (57.8dB), [4,748Hz (52.3dB)] and 8,332Hz (43.2dB). The anti-resonance frequency and the SPL are [3,547Hz (28.2dB)] and 7,585Hz (35.0dB). We see that the two-microphone method of the acoustic tube can predict the SPL generated at individual eardrums.
