Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report studies the impact of depression angles on the sound localization accuracy of a multichannel system implemented using the 3/2 loudspeaker arrangement. First, the traditional transaural method was used to confirm the discrepancy in impulse responses between real and virtual sound sources. The normalized square errors were less than -15dB on twelve presented sound source directions, which included depression and azimuth angles. Next, listening tests for sound localization were performed. The results showed that the virtual source yielded greater variance in sound localization values and worse sound localization accuracy than the real source at depression angles greater than 20 degrees. The same results were obtained from significant difference tests. Last, we confirmed that using the mirror image method to account for floor reflection was effective; it allowed the virtual sound locations to basically match the real source locations.
