Beam deflector based on an optical phased array with using refractive index change

Abstract(in English) Laser beam deflectors are attractive for energy space transmission toward moving targets such as motor-vehicles, robots, and others. We have proposed to utilize optical phased array for such that purpose. So far, we have successfully achieved beam deflection with using a "passive" optical phased array of which the phase-difference between adjacent array waveguides was fixed so that to obtain a certain deflection angle. However, active deflection-angle-control is required for the actual application. As it is difficult to control each refractive index change in an arrayed waveguide, the control system of it may become relatively complicated. For this reason, here we propose a simple scheme to control refractive index change of an arrayed waveguide.
