Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) There are several barriers to communicate between deaf-blind people and non-disabled people. The communication method of deaf-blind people is totally different from the language of non-disabled people, so they can't communicate with each other directly. Most importantly, deaf-blind people can't understand whether a communication partner is nearby or not. We resolved these issues by developing a system in which deaf-blind people can communicate bidirectionally using an infrared remote control system. In this system, as a result of the establishment of an infrared communication link, deaf-blind people can detect that communication partners are nearby.
