Abstract(in English) | Fused fiber couplers with different cross sectional shapes were fabricated, and the polarization and wavelength dependences were investigated. In case the cross sectional shape at the coupler waist is a dumbbell with a narrow neck, the coupling coefficient and its wavelength dependence for y-polarized light grow larger than those for x-polarized light with narrowing the neck. In case of the cross sectional shape of a near-circular ellipse, the coupling coefficient for x-polarized light becomes a little larger than that for y-polarized light, and their wavelength dependences increase with the shape getting closer to a circle in spite of the shorter effective coupler length. The polarization differences of the coupling coefficient and its wavelength dependence are small for the cross sectional shape between a dumbbell with a thick neck and a near-circular ellipse, and the fused fiber couplers depend little on the polarization. |
