Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Dual Mode Vehicles (DMV) are a new vehicle type developed by JR Hokkaido that can operate on both conventional roadways and railroads. However, these vehicles are currently equipped with diesel engines that emit CO_2, a greenhouse gas. In this study, we introduce fuel cell DMVs (FCDMVs), DMVs equipped with hydrogen fuel cells that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The reduction of greenhouse gases by FCDMVs was quantitatively evaluated by simulation when FCDMVs were introduced in Hokkaido Prefecture and Hiroshima city.
