Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) View-dependent texture mapping is capturing images of materials of the real world from a multiple viewpoints and texture-mapping an interpolated image generated from the sample images considering the direction of the viewpoint. The method is capable of rendering appearance changes of the texture caused by bumps or other geometrical structures. A disadvantage of this approach is that artifacts called "double images" are often generated at the borders between different texture images, where mixed pattern of different images or unrealistic sharp borders of different patterns are seen. In this paper, a new technique for generating images for view-dependent texture mapping is proposed, in which a texture generation is achieved by minimizing dissimilarities between the output images and the sample images instead of interpolating the samples directly. Using the proposed method, texture images can be generated while suppressing effects of double images.
