Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) If we can produce image media that present odor stimuli to recreate smells along with their images, we can extend the possible range of expressions and enhance the realism of the sensations promoted by the images. In this paper, smells were coordinated with images using the olfactory display, and the psychology of the subject viewing the image was examined. The Semantic Differential (SD) method, based on a questionnaire, was used for the subjective evaluation of the subjects. The oculo-pupillary reflex and gaze detection method were used for the objective evaluation. We found that smell presentation reinforces both the realistic sensation and the understanding of the content of the image. Moreover, new display system able to emit smells from the inside of the screen and its applications are described.
