Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The YAWARA project aims at an extreme optimization system that reconfigures both hardware and software at run-time. This project is based on rich use of transistor resources, and also the project intends to accelerate many ordinal programs that have conventional, sequential designs. This paper offers a perspective of the YAWARA project, including some preliminary discussions and the present status. Its basic concept is based on reconfiguration and it is called 'Meta-Level Computation,' in which some additional optimization mechanism observes the program execution so that it shows the most suitable solution. From the view point of feasibility, the YAWARA system employs a thread-level reconfiguration concept. In order to show the effectiveness of the YAWARA system, it has adopted the two path limited speculation model, which is one of speculative multithreading methods, so that we can show effectiveness of the YAWARA model. Currently we are building an evaluation environment that includes a simulator, code generator, and dynamic optimizer.
