Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Japan is one of the highly seismic country and Japanese has suffered disastrous damage from huge earthquakes many times. Therefore, it is very important to catch the portent of earthquakes to reduce the damage. Anomalous environmental electromagnetic (EM) waves have been reported as the portent of earthquakes. We have been measuring the Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) band at about 40 sites in Japan and our goal is to clarify the correlation between the anomalies and earthquakes. Therefore, in this paper, in order to detect the anomalies we propose a method based on durnal change of EM waves using HMM. Experimental results for huge earthquakes show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
