Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To increase the total transmission capacity in the next generation optical interconnects, it is required to increase the number of multiplexed signals in parallel optics by densely-mounting optical modules. Therefore, small optical modules will be a key component. So far, the wavelength range of 850nm has been utilized for present optical interconnects where the semiconductor material of GaAs is employed for optical devices. In order to get the benefits in higher modulation capability, higher reliability, and lower power consumption, we have been proposing the usage of 1-μm-wavelength-range optical interconnects using InGaAs VCSEL and PD. It also provides the advantages of lower transmission loss and lower chromatic dispersion in MMF to realize a longer transmission distance. In this paper, we focused on clarification of the advantage of using 1-μm-wavelength-range in fiber transmission. We fabricated 1-μm 10-Gbit/s×12ch small parallel-optical modules equipped in an electrical-pluggable socket and an MMF optimized for 1μm. Then, we evaluated a parallel-optical link built with the modules and the MMF. As results, we achieved error free transmission with MMF of 1km when transmitting 10Gbit/s×12ch simultaneously. To clarify the advantage of using 1μm in fiber transmission, the increase of power penalty is investigated in theoretical and experimental approaches in comparison with transmission of 850nm.
