Abstract(in English) | We have been studying optical waveguide devices using FLC for optical waveguide claddings. Ferroelectric liquid crystal is an attractive material for optical switches because it has a high refractive index change of about 0.1, a rapid response time in the sub-microseconds, and bistability that dose not require state-sustaining voltage. In our previous work, we reported 2×2 optical switches based on a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. In the present paper, we report the fabrication of a 1×8 optical switch in the integrated three-stage MZI optical switching devices having FLC claddings. |
