Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, with the expansion of digital devices with high storage capacity and high-speed Internet, there is a need for user interfaces that allow easy and comfortable browsing of large amounts of related data. We propose a user interface that allows the user to "take a stroll" through large data sets, by displaying focused data and related data in a way that makes it easy for the user to recognize their desired information within the data set. In this paper we first describe the problems with existing technology, then propose a design that effectively allows for "taking a stroll" through information on the screen, using novel methods involving radial and sector zoom, and lines that demarcate degrees of relatedness of information. The above-mentioned method is applied to a television program guide and described as a prototype, and the results of an evaluation by usability experts are described.
