Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Carefully examining the English-Japanese machine translation process of 70 sentences taken from a textbook for the third year grade junior high school students, we found the following facts. Even if two English sentences or expressions are exactly the same, they should be translated into Japanese slight differently according as they are modified by a relative clause or not. The machine translation system by US method which we have developed uses the attribute values attached to each translation word item in the dictionary to successfully translate these English sentences in question.
