Readability Assignment to Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese

Abstract(in English) This paper reports the result of readability assignment to 4,669 sample texts in Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese (the monitor version in 2008) using a readability measurement system based on the textbook corpus. The assigned readability grades are roughly normally distributed; the median is 9 among 13 grades, which corresponds to the third grade of junior high school.
