Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this research, we investigated the factors that increase the processing cost of relative clauses which contain a dative verb. The results of the reading time experiment revealed that the structural distance between the filler (relative head) and gap (extracted site) determines the processing load of relative clauses, which is consistent with the results from previous studies on relative clauses with an accusative embedded verb.. This finding confirms the validity of Structural Distance Hypothesis.
