Abstract(in English) | This paper investigates the structure of a so-called ni-causative construction in Japanese (in which the Causee argument is marked by a case particle -ni). I demonstrate (i) that in a Numeration the causative morpheme sase should be considered as an independent lexical item, and (ii) that sase is a three-place predicate taking a Causer, a Causee, and a Caused event as its arguments. The relevant facts are some coodinate constructions of ni-causatives. It is shown that they cannot be accounted for if sase is already attached to a verbal stem in the Lexicon, or if the Causee is not an argument of sase. |
