Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A new power efficiency index for RF (radio frequency) power amplifiers is proposed. These amplifiers studied are saturating ones with class-B/C operation and modulated by envelope/amplitude signal; they are suitable for OFDM or multi-level QAM modulation transmitters that are getting more and more widely used for recent wireless communications and broadcasting systems. For those systems usually, class-A linear amplifiers are used with large back-off for the purpose of enough modulation accuracy and spurious characteristics. On the other hand, the amplifiers that are modulated by envelope/amplitude signal are recently being studied. However, a good index of power efficiency for that kind of amplifiers has not been known commonly. This report discusses the problem of conventional indexes, power adding efficiency, for examples, and studies the suitable indexes for the amplifiers.
