Abstract(in English) | One of the main issues in designing a brain-machine interface (BMI) is to extract brain information with high accuracy. This study attempted to extract steady-state somatosensory evoked potentials (SSSEPs) with high accuracy by spatial filters and improve the BMI performance. The neural activations by stimulating left/right index fingers in the primary somatosensory cortex (SI) were measured using fMRI. SSSEPs evoked by repetitive mechanical stimulations to the left/right index fingers were measured alternately. The fMRI results showed localized neural activations in the contralateral SI could be clearly detected. Moreover, the source localizations using PCA (Principal Component Analysis) and sLOERTA (standardized low resolution electromagnetic tomographys) demonstrate the availability of spatial filtering technique to estimate the SI. These results suggest the possibility to set up BMI based on SSSEP combined with spatial filtering. |
