Abstract(in English) A path switching step-gain-control amplifier with negative-feedback circuit has been presented for mobile hand sets. In addition to a large range of step-gain-control, both small size and low distortion characteristics can be realized by using the negative-feedback resistance. A good return loss in low-gain-mode is achieved by using the switched parallel resistance equivalent to the input impedance of the transistor. The relations between the range of step-gain-control and the input return loss of the amplifier were analyzed with several values of the negative-feedback and parallel resistances. A 3-stages amplifier employing the proposed step-gain-control circuit at the first stage has been developed. The developed step-gain-control amplifier MMIC is realized in the small chip area of 0.1mm^2. At 2.4GHz, 29.3dB gain-control and over 8dB input return loss were demonstrated.
