Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Space-time-frequency coding is a viable technology which can provide bandwidth efficient multi-dimensional signaling as an effort either to enhance the diversity gain over fading channels or to improve the system capacity/throughput in multi-user MIMO systems. The issues on space-time-frequency coding have been well investigated in the literature, nevertheless with different emphases. One of the most popular research topics in this area is to incorporate frequency domain signaling design in a traditional space-time coding paradigm to achieve an improved diversity/multiplex gain/capability. In this approach, an OFDM or OFDMA system is usually involved. The other and also relatively new direction of the space-time-frequency coding research is the spatial domain extension of orthogonal complementary code/sequence design as an effort to design a CDMA system which offers interference-resistance performance and spatial diversity jointly under a unified space-time-frequency coding framework. One of the most important features for this approach is its chip-level space-time coding schemes which can offer a much more robust performance (in particular for a multi-user MIMO system implementation in a multipath propagation environment) than the traditional bit-level space-time coding which is extremely vulnerable to multipath propagation and multi-user transmissions. In this talk, the issues on the design of the next generation CDMA architecture based on the chip-level space-time-frequency coding schemes will be addressed. We start from a review of existing research activities on the space-time-frequency coding, and then we proceed to introduce the two dimensional CDMA system based on the orthogonal complementary coding, followed by the introduction of an MIMO enabled CDMA architecture based on chip-level space-time-frequency coding scheme. Finally, we will discuss the implementation and system performance issues for the proposed system architecture.
