Fast Sub-macroblock Selection for Motion Estimation in H.264/AVC

Abstract(in English) A fast sub-macroblock mode selection algorithm is proposed in this paper. Motion estimation part of H.264/AVC requires very large computational cost. Hence motion estimation part is the hottest research topics, and macroblock selection is one of the most challenging problems. This paper presents a method that can eliminate low-probability modes using the adjusted sub-macroblock informations. This method can greatly reduce encodiong time with acceptable slight loss in video coding.
