Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper reports results of measuring crowdedness within specific area using heterogeneous types of sensors and wireless sensor networks.. We used infrared sensors and CO_2 sensors for this purpose. Although infrared sensors have advantages in its fast detection of human existence, measuring in large area will require large amount of sensors, leading to substantial increase of total energy consumption. In contrast, CO_2 sensors are superior to infrared sensors in that detection of human existence in larger area can be done with smaller number of sensors. However, CO_2 sensors often have difficulty in reacting with the case where the number of persons in the area fluctuates in a short time. This paper examines the scheme to estimate crowdedness using these two types of sensors and employs results of either of them depending on the situations in order to estimate crowdedness using as small number of data items as possible. We present results of measurements and discuss feasibility of this scheme.
