Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, a high power laser is applied for metal welding and cutting processes. A laser beam used for the processes is guided through a large core optical fiber and focused on the object with an objective lens. With this method a precision micro processing can not be performed because of a large beam size at the end of fiber. In this study we developed the novel taper optical fibers that converted core diameters from 600μm to 200μm. As a result of evaluating the insertion loss of the taper optical fibers at the wavelength of 633nm with input power of 10mW, the low insertion loss less than 1dB was measured.
