Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Since the rain forest decrease (deforestation and degradation) is well known as correlated with the global warming, it tends to monitor the forest status using the satellite data within the global observation mechanism led by several space agencies. JAXA has been conducting its own project using the PALSAR data and already produced the 50 meter resolution satellite data mosaic for 2007 and 2008. This paper describes how the Japanese L-band SAR systems (PALSAR or the former JERS-1 SAR) can detect the deforestation status suing the PALSAR or JERS-1 SAR. We also show the example of the forest classification results using the PALSAR data.
