Abstract(in English) | Adoption of Server-Based Computing (SBC) in medical facilities has spread successfully in terms of its superiority regarding cost and privacy protection. While pen tablet systems (PTS) have been frequently utilized with electronic patient record systems, the evaluation method on its usability under SBC environments has not been fully established. The purpose of this study is to define the indices of the usability with the experiments using three major SBC applications: GO-Global (GG), Citrix and Windows Terminal Server (WTS). We focused on the difference of the positions between mouse-cursor by the subject's operation and drawing by application, which was caused by the delay of screen updating being intrinsic to SBC applications. The difference was called delay distance and measured by the video-captured screen image with three velocities of the mouse-cursor. As a result, the delay distance increased with the velocity and the magnitude of its deviation varied with SBC applications. The results coincided with the observations by the author's preliminary studies that WTS was less stable and more sensitive to the cursor velocity than GG. We concluded that readiness of PTS operations depended on variance of the delay distance that could be one of the evaluation indices of the usability. |
