Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We investigated cardiorespiratory coordination to estimate the exercise intensity. The coordination includes two patterns, respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) and phase synchronization. RSA is understood to improve pulmonary gas exchange by matching perfusion to ventilation within respiratory cycle. However, it is unclear what benefits phase synchronization brings to human body and how relation it has with RSA. We analyze electrocardiogram, respiratory rhythm and efficacy of gas exchange in 6 healthy humans who breathed synchronously to the sound of heartbeats through a speaker. The analysis reveals that phase synchronization improves gas exchange by locking the mechanism order of respiration to heartbeats. The influence of the degree of RSA on phase synchronization is considered.
