OFDM signal transmission characteristic of the high-speed power line communication system

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we measured transmission loss characteristics of the power line and PHY rate through the PLC modem in order to examine the influence that the transmission loss characteristic of the power line with the branch gives to PHY rate of the OFDM signal. Moreover, PHY rate of the PLC modem was calculated by MATLAB/Simulink, and compared with the measured one. From these results, (1) Sharp attenuation peak of -20dB or more was created in the frequency region of 2MHz to 30MHz for the PLC modem, and this attenuation peak was moved to the low frequency region according that the branch length was lengthened, (2) PHY rate achieved about 190M-200Mbps and almost correspond to the ideal state of PLC modem, even when the attenuation is inserted up to 30dB, but PHY rates decreased about 20dB to 30dB when the attenuation is inserted up to 50dB, (3) Calculation results of PHY rate for PLC modem by using the calculation soft of MATLAB/Simulink agreed with the measurement one, and so it was confirmed that the calculation method of PHY rate of OFDM signal through PLC modem was appropriate.
