Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) ESVs (Earth Stations onboard Vessels) are expected to provide a broadband connection in the maritime communication by use of satellite systems. They transmit in the Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) networks in the 6GHz and/or 14GHz band (Earth-to-space); therefore they should avoid unacceptable interference to Fixed Service Receivers (FSRs) in these bands. Resolution 902 (World Radiocommunication Conference 2003: WRC-03) resolves that the minimum distances beyond which ESVs can operate without the prior agreement of any administration are 300km in the 5925-6425MHz band and 125km in the 14-14.5GHz band. The minimum distances are defined assuming the use of the narrow-band transmission scheme. We propose the use of the spread spectrum transmission scheme to mitigate interference to FSRs. Simulation results based on the procedure defined in Recommendation ITU-R SF.1649 show that ESVs can operate within the current minimum distance, protecting FSRs against interference from them.
