Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper reports the result of the "Ideathlon", an idea generation support project in the NEC C & C Innovation Research Laboratories held between Nov. and Dec. 2008. Ideathlon is a coined term combining "idea" and "athlon". Participants of Ideathlon generated and shared ideas via Email. This trial had two purposes: (1) to encourage participants' idea generation; and (2) to promote informal communication among them. As a result, nineteen participants successfully generated and shared 2840 ideas. After the trial, we conducted the follow-up questionnaire and found some remarkable effects of the Ideathlon. We confirmed that the Ideathlon is also beneficial for encouraging informal communication among the participants. For instance, twelve respondents answered that the Ideathlon promoted their mutual understanding among the participants. Moreover, fourteen respondents said that the Ideathlon promoted their communication in the office.
