Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is often observed that a listener's body movements occur nearly simultaneously with a change in the speaker's voice pattern in face-to-face communication. We refer to such synchronization between a speaker and a listener as 'entrainment'. We analyzed two lectures in order to examine whether the level of entrainment between the teacher's voice intensity and students' body movements reflect the student's interest in the lecture. We applied a computer-based video analysis to measure the intensity of students' body movement, and evaluated the temporal relationship between the intensity of the teacher's voice and that of the students' body movements, using a moving cross correlation analysis. The results indicated a positive relationship between level of entrainment and students' interest in the lectures.
