Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) | |
Abstract(in English) | The purpose of a university Science Shop is to independently support research on subjects of interest to civil society on the basis of citizen participation. This study aimed to investigate the possibility of clinical studies, regarding medical treatments and social welfare, being submitted to Osaka University Science Shop and the potential issues arising from such submissions. The investigation was carried out based on a discussion at the 5^ | joint meeting with planners of the shop, and interviews with citizens who might become users of the shop. As a result, clinical problems were defined as including anguishes and difficulties which individual people experience, and existential afflictions that are embedded in their contexts and difficult to address. However, it was found that since patients were eager to support others, clinical problems that had previously been considered to be personal problems could become public problems. It was suggested that Osaka University's Science Shop should not only organize studies of clinical problems based on citizens' support, but should also positively concern itself with local communities' concrete activities. It was also suggested that through continuous exchange and cooperation with people who might have various problems, the shop could share clinical problems with all people concerned. |
