Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a method of switching PPP connections between 3GNW and WLAN by Seamless PPP Migration. Seamless PPP Migration is a Layer-2 protocol handover technique. It has communication transparency to Layer-3 and above. The implementation of Seamless PPP Migration extends PPP which is normally used for a 3GNW data communication protocol. It maintains backwards compatibility with existing PPP. Seamless PPP Migration can move communication traffic on PPP connections between disparate networks seamlessly. It allows users to access higher quality wireless access links without interrupting any application sessions. We show the design of Seamless PPP Migration and also study a problem of migration timing when the communication traffic changes between 3GNW and WLAN.
