Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In general, Application Level Multicast (ALM) operates on a distribution tree using peer-to-peer logical links. This does not consider distance between peers and can be inefficient in terms of bandwidth utilization. We have proposed a novel distribution tree construction scheme called VBT (Virtual Backbone based Tree) where always-connected peers called BP (Backbone Peer) comprise VB (Virtual Backbone) and serve as bandwidth efficient relay peers. In this paper, we propose a metric to select BP in order to enhance performance of this scheme. The proposed metric considers both a direct path between a source and a client peer and a path from a client peer to a source peer via a target always connected peer, and the target always connected peer is selected as BP in the case the distance ratio of both path is high. Results of computer simulation show that the proposed selection metric is effective to optimize both the number of hops between a source peer and a client peer and total bandwidth cost.
