Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Shape encoding plays the most important role in the realization of robust shape cognition. Recent physiological studies with Macaque suggested that object shape is encoded by medial-axis in primary visual cortex (V1). We studied what mechanisms realize the medial-axis representation by a population of V1 cells. We showed that (1) the object shape is encoded as medial axis by the onset synchronization of Border-Ownership selective cells, (2) the arbitrary shapes could be decoded by its medial-axis.
