Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The hardware implementation of a pulsed neuron based system has been previously proposed. The system identifies sound sources in a similar way to the human auditory system, with the aim of assisting hearing impaired people. A survey among people with hearing loss was conducted in order to identify important sounds to be recognized by the system. However, the previously proposed system cannot correctly identify these sounds, as it only uses spectral information. This paper proposes a new method which additionally uses temporal information in the recognition process. The experimental results confirm the superiority of the proposed approach when comparing to the previous model, confirming its potential for the implementation of practical aiding systems for hearing impaired people.
